Taking the Day Off!

Up this morning about 7-ish, and breakfast as per usual.  We’ve now finished our Costco croissants, and Rhas also finished one jar of Bonne Maman raspberry preserves … he does rather like to scoop it into his croissants, so it tends to go quickly.  We talked about entertainment options for the day, but decided that after a few very intense sightseeing days, and with the Bishop Museum on the agenda for tomorrow, that instead, we would kick back and just take it easy, and have a nice late lunch somewhere instead!

So, about 12:30 pm we decided to walk over to the Royal Hawaiian and see what we could do about lunch!  Both Debby and I had been quite literally dreaming of the Mai Tai Bar’s truffle fries from our lunch earlier in the week, and I, for one, had also thought that a repeat of my lobster roll would make a more an acceptable Sunday lunch/dinner!

Lovely day once again – mid-70’s with blue skies and sunshine and the Trade Winds blowing.  The Mai Tai Baron Sunday, it turns out, has entertainment from 11 – 2 pm, so we got to be entertained (a bit loud for our taste, but not raucous by any means) – an older guy with a guitar doing a combination of Jimmy Buffett and Don Ho, with an older gal doing the hula as accompaniment.  Debby and I both repeated our earlier orders – Mahi sandwich for Debby and lobster roll, both with truffle fries, for us, and this time, Robert had their Mahi Mahi dinner, which he said was wonderful.  Robert also got a Pina Colada this time (two actually, as he explained that they generally come in pairs…), as he wasn’t a fan of Mai Tai – I tried it and it was delicious, although I tend to stick with my glass of Sauvignon Blanc!

A Bacon, Egg, Avocado, SPAM and Tomato Sandwich???

R's mahi mahi dinner!

After lunch, Debby and I walked over to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for Lappert’s ice cream, and R returned to the apartment.  He never was much of an ice cream fan!  Quite a line at Lappert’s.  Debby got Kauai Pie – not sure exactly what it was, but there was Kona coffee ice cream, Hawaiian macadamia nuts, shredded and lightly toasted coconut and rich dark chocolate fudge.  I got chocolate … I know, how boring!

Back to the apartment around 4 pm and Debby went down to the pool to sit outside for a bit.  She didn’t stay long, though, as apparently it was quite windy (it’s on the 5th floor).  We’re all now safe and sound in the apartment and probably in for the night.  We have Roku TV here, so who knows what we may find to watch!

Tomorrow, our last full day here, starts at the Bishop Museum in downtown Honolulu, and we’ll see where we go from there!  Then, we start the journey home on Tuesday!

Much love,

m
