We're Home!

Hi!   I believe in my last posting, we were waddling home from the Side Street Café after a truly glorious albeit HUGE meal!  Wow!  Such wonderful memories of our last day on Oahu!     However, all terrific trips eventually come to an end, and we were up early on Tuesday morning to pack and head to the Honolulu airport.  It was a wrench leaving our really beautiful penthouse apartment, but we were on our way by about 8:30 am.  We never mind being early to the airport (our flight wasn’t until 12:10 pm) because we had to gas up and turn in the rental car, check the bags, etc.  Fortunately, we were able to find a gas station right outside the airport – and in the entire week, we only used a little more than half a tank of gas, so while the price was steep -- $4.69/gallon, overall, it wasn’t too bad at all!  The turn-in was very easy, and soon we had checked our bags, gone through  TSA  pre-check, and ...

And on Our Last Day …

Today, we went to the  Bishop   Museum !  But to start from the beginning!  Up this morning to another perfect day … seems like they have a lot of those here, doesn’t it??  We went down for coffee/chocolate milk and pastries around 7:30.  Debby got a Palmier, I got a chocolate croissant (which really had  TOO  much chocolate in it!) and  R  got two ham, cheese and mushroom croissants.  All good!     We were out about 8:30 to get across town to the  Bernice Bishop Museum  for its opening at 9 am.  We were among the first to arrive at this lovely spot.  The museum was built in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife, Bernice Pauahi, who was the great granddaughter of King Kamehameha I.  Its original collections were based largely on the royal family heirlooms of the Kamehameha and Kalakaua dynasties.  Both the museum and the collect...

Taking the Day Off!

Up this morning about 7-ish, and breakfast as per usual.  We’ve now finished our Costco croissants, and  R has also finished one jar of  Bonne   Maman  raspberry preserves … he does rather like to scoop it into his croissants, so it tends to go quickly.  We talked about entertainment options for the day, but decided that after a few very intense sightseeing days, and with the  Bishop Museum  on the agenda for tomorrow, that instead, we would kick back and just take it easy, and have a nice late lunch somewhere instead!     So, about 12:30 pm we decided to walk over to the  Royal Hawaiian  and see what we could do about lunch!  Both Debby and I had been quite literally dreaming of the  Mai Tai Bar’s  truffle fries from our lunch earlier in the week, and I, for one, had also thought that a repeat of my lobster roll would make a more an acceptable Sunday lunch/dinner!   Lovely day once again...

It’s “Take Debby to The Beach Day!”

Image
Up this morning to another sunny and blue sky kind of day!  Truly lovely outside, with the waves rolling in to shore.  When we began our trip, Debby had just two requests:  She wanted to go to the  Polynesian Cultural Center , and she wanted to go to the beach.  She didn’t really care which beach she went to, and she didn’t necessarily want to swim, but she definitely wanted to get into her bathing suit and get (at least) her feet wet.  So …    First off, downstairs for the requisite coffee and chocolate milk … this time, without ice!  (Why anyone would even think of putting ice in chocolate milk, I still can’t imagine!)  Debby and I are working our way through the tiny bakery’s collection of pastries, and they’re not bad.  This morning, Debby had a  Palmier  and I had two macaroons – one plain and the other covered in dark chocolate.  All were declared “yummy.”  Sunri...
